FDS Course Modules and Activities

FDS Modules – 3 Week Programmes

FDS module choices are updated and selected each year to reflect the changing times and form specific topic groups. The syllabus focus depends on which subjects compliment the student’s applications for MSc the best. The objective for the 2020 Summer programme is to focus on Fintech, Data Analysis, Modelling and digital skills development, forming a good basis for pre-postgraduate entry and employability in finance-related careers.

The information processing and analytic skill sets developed during the summer programme will form an important foundational basis for the student’s future work and educational development. The 3-week Summer Programme is split into 3 core and 4 optional modules:

Core Modules – Students Choose Two

Module 1 Data Analysis and Modelling

Module 2 Python for Business Analytics

Module 3 Fintech Disruption and Transformation – The Internet of Things

Optional Modules – Students Choose Two

Module 4 Marketing Analytics

Module 5 Human Resource Analytics

Module 6 Supply Chain Management – Distributed Ledger Technologies

Module 7 Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

FDS Modules – 2 Week Programmes

We recognise that not all programme participants will want to spend three-weeks in the Summer School so we also have a two-week option. This two-week option includes one week of study and one week in the industry. The Modules that can be studied in the two-week period are as follows:

Core Modules –

Module 1 Data Analysis and Modelling

Module 2 Python for Business Analytics

Module 7 Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

TTC Personal Development Plan

Aimed primarily at International students, each programme attendee is offered the opportunity to create a Personal Development plan (PDP) to help them to show evidence of the skills and knowledge that they have acquired, before and during the Summer School , which helps them to improve their work opportunities, their current workplace activities and forms the basis of high-quality applications to Universities for post graduate study.

The PDP consists of a document with details of verifiable skills and educational attainment as well as evidence of ongoing work towards improving things like speaking and writing English, Math and statistics, and document reading ability.

Industry Project Work: Summer 2020 – Industry LIVE Case studies

As part of the Summer School  in 2020 TTC will provide participants with short-term work experience in the finance industry, with opportunities to visit TTC industry partners to enable them to work on Live Case studies and to use the skills developed in the TTC Summer School  to provide potential solutions to real industry challenges.

The work experience occurs in the last week of the booked Summer School so that those who have booked a three-week programme will spend week three in the industry and those who have booked a 2-week programme, the last week.

TTC Institute Certification
  • The TTC Institute certifies each Summer School programme which is equivalent to a graduate-level diploma
  • Students will receive a certificate from TTC for completing the programme, attending classes, undertaking a test and performing scheduled tasks
  • There are assessments in the form of Live Case study reports and the end-of programme test is optional.
  • If participants of the programme do not wish to sit the end of programme test or have not attended the majority of classes or completed assignments, then a Participation Certificate will be awarded.
  • The pass mark for the end of programme test is 60%.

Testimonials

"I chose to study the Finance Trading Programme (FTP) as I wanted to get a more hands-on approach on complex financial topics. During normal lectures, we don’t have the time to see whether the theories we learn are applicable to the real world, and if they are, how. The Trading Programme provides me with the practical tools that I will need in the real world to analyse the markets and based on that, take trades." - MSc Investment and Finance Student
